BELAMUN 2012: Some Numbers

Unfortunately, so long expected event has come to the end! Who were the heroes of BELAMUN this year? Let's examine them in detail.

The conference consisted of five committees, which included 67 delegates and 10 chairs respectively. Many of the delegates have repeatedly engaged in BELAMUN that’s why they had no difficulties with the rules and procedure of the conference. However, half of them were newcomers (32 delegates).

What concerns chairs, they are well trained and talented people with excellent knowledge of both the work of the committees and of the main issues.

It should be noted that the committee GA2 was the most numerous in which 20 delegates took part.

The least quantity of delegates was presented in the Security Council committee (9).

So, what attracts students to choose Economic and Financial Committee? Probably this is because of the acute attention to the economical problems of today. Delegates want to examine and debate the issues and changes of the world economy. That is why most of the participants of GA2 were the students of the International Economic Relations Department.

The theme of sustainable development is relevant not only among economists. Political cooperation, security and human rights are now in need of very special consideration. Our delegates have tried to explore these issues from the inside, as well as the prospects for their development in order to stabilize society. Nature, Society and Personality were at the center of the attention when discussing the model of sustainable development, ensuring the survival of humanity. Participants spoke of the need to gradually reduce of the natural resources value and enhancing the role of intellectual capacity, human capital, education, science and industry for the formation of a new strategy for harmonious and sustainable development of society. At the same time there were offered the ideas of specific projects to improve the situation in the place of residence, study, work, rest.

It was also noted that girls were far more a lot than guys at the conference (girls – 62, boys – 16, including the chairs). As you can see, BELAMUN is especially popular among girls. Nevertheless, in spite of the gender and age all participants were very active and interested in the process.

Unfortunately not all the students who had applied the conference reached this event. Nevertheless, there were foreign guests from Russia and Sri Lanka, full of impressions and eagerness to invite their friends to our conference.

We hope that next BELAMUN will meet much more delegates from various close and distant lands!
