BELAMUN is Belarusian Model United Nations Conference for University and High School Students. It serves as a forum in which students from colleges and universities around the world can meet to discuss the greatest challenges facing the world today. The goal of BELAMUN is to begin a process whereby constructive debate today can lead to solutions tomorrow. While playing the role game the sessions of UNO are imitated.
The students forget about their birthplace for a few days and take places of ambassadors from different countries that assemble in UNO to discuss problems which mankind faces today. Taking on the role of world leaders, young people work together to find solutions to international challenges, acquire new knowledge and skills, and build relationships that cross borders of background, culture and nationality. A delegate should know not only the history and foreign policy of presented country but behave so as he (she) has lived there for all his (her) life. To feel the national peculiarities of the chosen country is the goal of such conferences.
The debate starts with the discussion of light questions. It helps to adapt participants for the session. They join in the work and maintain the discussion for the whole debate. Having studied the game rules of the international organization work and methods of diplomatic etiquette participants make a compromise. The delegates formulate their decisions in resolutions. And being one of the peculiar examples of new approach to the world problem this resolution is to be sent to the Secretariat of the United Nations.
Being involved in the conference young people develop their skills of negotiations and discussions, documents preparation, making compromise and persisting of country’s interests. BELAMUN is a chance to practice yourself in the role of diplomat and improve your knowledge on the world problems.
